I know sea trout are known locally in the SW as peal but how far north or east doen one have to go before they get another local name? I supect going north they are peal until we hit the Wlesh border and they become sewin. Just curious

I always think of peal as being a Devon and Cornwall thing. In Dorset I get funny looks when I call them peal, everyone down there just talks about sea trout, there seems to be no local name. I don't know if there are any left in the tiny North Somerset streams (Avill, Washford and Doniford) and I don't know if they had a local name. I suspect if they did it was "dinner" Andy
