I got a weekend pass from the Mem Sahib and headed to Devon last weekend. Heavy holiday traffic meant that it was lunchtime before I got into the Yeo at Dunscombe Bridge and fished upstream. It was extremely quiet with no fish movement and the river was very low. I went up as far as Codshead Bridge and had a couple of (possible) touches on the Klinkhamer but otherwise nothing. I could have fished it in wellies rather than chest waders as it was that shallow. The stiff downstream (isn't it always) breeze didn't help matters either. The next day on the Taw was better and I saw a pair of very young Kingfishers darting downstream as I was stringing up, so my day was made before I put a fly on the water. I worked upstream from Taw Bridge with the Klinkhamer and finally caught a 4-incher, losing the Klinkhamer to the tree gods shortly afterwards. Despite the Mem Sahib's scorn ("one 4-inch fish in 2 days? ") I really enjoyed it, expecially on the Taw. Any fish to a dry fly is a sweet moment for me as I only caught my first wild fish on a dry this season. However, we could certainly use some rain to get the water levels up. How is everyone else doing so far this season?

Not surprised you didn't get anything above Dunscombe.
