The rain has finally got salar on the move. I know of four fish off a beat between Tiverton and the Junction over the weekend, one from Dulverton on Monday and two more off the Barle yesterday. A mix of couloured and silver fish. The two off the Barle had no fight in them, they have obviously been running very hard and fast. River rising again, happy days Andy

One of them did Rob Two salmon were spotted on the Dulverton AA waters on the Little Exe today. Nobody has taken a salmon off the Little Exe beats since DAA took the fishing on (about 10 years?). To be fair next to nobody has tried. At £25/season this water could provide some of the cheapest salmon fishing in the West Country. It is said that 90% of the run goes up the Barle but I know the Pixton beats have given up 25 fish in a season in the past. There is also the Hollam beat upstream. There are only a few likely spots in these beats and they all need water but the chance is there. Andy

Water holding up well Four more yesterday for me from the Barle, all returned. Two fresh, two stale. All grilse, no sign of bigger fish but I have heard of a few larger (but stale) fish from the main river. The two bright ones from yesterday. How long can this last? Andy

Not one for me near Bolham today... water looked really good but didn't get a touch. Still there is always a chance later in the week

Two more today 6lb and 5lb ish, both fairly stale. Also heard of several more well up onto the moor. The first one today was the result of a fine piece of angling, I hooked it while wading ashore with my back turned after finishing the pool! Come to me. Closer? Got her! Andy

Well done Andy that is a great bit of fishing!!! ;D ;D I went again today but blanked again not even have a touch. My excuse is that I have injured my arm and nothing fishing wise is very fluid any more. I spent the time wondering how I was going to land a salmon if I hooked one. ;D Hopefully a friend who can fish will try on Friday so there maybe a chance of a fish

Cheers Clive I went up again yesterday, one stale grilse only plus a few heart stopping pulls from sycamore leaves It does appear that there isn't much around which fits in with the pattern of recent years, we get a good day or two when the run is going through but very little afterwards. 10 years ago we would have expected to pick fish here and there for a week after a good spate and also see a fair few. Apart from the one I did get the river appeared empty. Still there is more rain about so it might get going again. Andy

Went for a walk down the river today - absolutely nothing doing. However still have perfect excuse - can't cast a fly rod at all. Cant use right arm above chest level. Hopefully will get better soon and still have time for a salmon.
