Hi all, I have fished the West Dart above Two Bridges and the East Dart above Postbridge. I'm planning to fish the Duchy waters again on a forthcoming trip but would appreciate any pointers on other stretches to try. There will be two of us sharing a rod.
Any info would be appreciated.

Mark, Two of my favorite stretches on the West dart are up from the where the Swincomb enters the river and up stream of the Dartmoor training centre or the Prince hall hotel.
Been a bit slow so far but normally fishes well.

Thanks for the info Terry . I'll take a look at the places you mention. I'm not coming until four weeks time so hopefully the fish will start to switch on by then . Cheers, Mark

Mark,
Forgot to mention, although your probably aware, both of these stretches are a good bit wider that the stretches you have fished. With a few nice deep pools also.
For those that don't know the WTT is having it's annual get together at the Dartmoor training centre next month, anybody going?

If you hadn't seen it already, the westcountry angling passport website has good info on the Dart. Also check out Get Hooked, angling guide to the sw. In the section on game articles there are some articles about dartmoor that are good.

Rubble, Thanks for the info on the Dart. I did get the info from the West Country Passport Scheme including a excellent map of the Duchy waters. I'll have a look at the places mentioned on here.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but you might give the Cherrybrook a try as that is some excellent trout water - though my personal favourite would still be the West Dart around Dunnabridge Farm.
The Blackbrook is good too, especially the lower reaches, and you could have a long day's fishing if you cover the West Dart up from Prince Hall to where the Blackbrook joins and fish that upstream to about the large pool on the corner (you'll know it if you see it).
Will you have two cars or just one?

Thanks for the info Jimmy. The Cherrybrook is certainly on my ' must do' list. We will have one car.

Two cars can be useful in terms of parking at different ends and fishing a long stretch, but one is no problem (and better for the environment too).
Access points for the Cherrybrook are pretty straightforward, there's a car park at both Lower and Higher Cherrybrook bridges.
I've had guests staying so I've not been out this weekend, but last week it was warming up beautifully so hopefully you'll be hitting it at the best time.

Jimmy, I've dug out a map of the Duchy waters from the passport scheme. I'll make my mind up where to go when I'm down there. Your right its warming up nicely. The forecast changes every day but I'm flexible when I can come down so hopefully I can time it right. It looks like your in for a soaking though today !

A literal soaking I expect - with my weekend guests on the train to London, this afternoon is my only chance to wet a line before being back to work on Monday. At least the gale force winds and torrential rain should mean I have Dartmoor to myself! --- Update: stuck my head out the front door and nearly had it blown off. So thought better of it and will stick to fly box arranging for the afternoon. Perhaps a sneaky trip to Meldon in the week when the wife isn't looking.

Yeah we've got that system coming in tomorrow. It's looking good after that's blown it self out though. If the weather holds we could be coming down this Sun.

Was working up there today. There was a really nasty downstreamer but it fished pretty well. Nice to see a few other anglers too.

Hi Starsky,
Was back up there again today working. Upper WD fished really well in am and lower down it was OK but think it had been worked over a bit in the morning. Did see a few anglers about there.

Worked up on Dartmoor today, West Dart (upper and Prince Hall)and Cherry fished pretty well and looked like they had a bit more water in them than when I was last up.
Had a quick look for migratory fish in a few of the usual spots but didn't see any.

Had a tickle around the Dunnabridge stretch yesterday evening, had a nice fish on a Greenwell's dry and a few other smaller risers. The drizzle seemed to wake things up a bit, but the system could do with a good dose of rain to flush things through a bit.
