Hi guys,
I need some info regarding the rivers in Devon current conditions.
I have a trip planned to fish the W&U assoc waters over this weekend in Wales but it's not looking good at the moment in regards to current condition and expected rainfall.
Im now starting to look at possible alternatives which include camping nearby.
Can anyone help me?
Many thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark and welcome !
I've just spent the morning cancelling work for the end of this week and the weekend on the Tamar. It is throwing it down here at the moment and pretty nasty. If you take a look at the webcam on the section for the Exe that should give you an idea.
If you don't mind stillwaters there are plenty of the South West Lakes Trust Waters you can fish. Colliford (browns only) is fishing really well and if the wind drops should be worth a look. Also a smaller lake in Dartmoor is Kennick (rainbows) and not far away is Fernworthy (browns)
Hope you get something organised

The Thorverton webcam on the Exe has shown a rise (from an already high level) of over a foot in the last 45min... It looks like it will go off the gauge soon. I think you can use the W&U passport tickets on angling2000 beats? If so the De Lank on Bodmin moor above Hantergantic Quarry may be fishable. I've been down there in similar conditions and it has remained clear. Looking at the weekend forecast I'm not sure I'd want to camp on Bodmin moor this weekend. The very top of the Barle on Exmoor could also be worth a look, it was big but clear (peaty) on Sunday when the rest of the Exe system was washed out. Tickets from the Exmoor Forest Inn www.exmoorforesthotel.co.uk/Camping nearby at Westermill Farm. They have a bit on the upper Exe running through the farm which again will clear very quickly. Again I'm not sure if I'd want to camp on Exmoor this weekend but I bet they will have vacancies www.westermill.com/The top of the Lyn is another possibility. Tickets for the Badgworthy water from the gift shop in Malmsmead. Camping at Cloud Farm. www.doonevalleyholidays.co.uk/pages/home.htmlDisclaimer. While you would be unlucky to lose both days of the weekend on these upper reaches it could happen. None of the above waters are noted for big fish! I have never used the campsites above, they are just the closest ones that spring to mind. Tight lines if you do give it a go Andy

The gauge on the Lyd at Lifton is underwater and the river's not peaked yet Traffic at Polson Bridge on the Tamar was being turned round at lunchtime because of flooding The surf at Bude is estimated at 17ft Just another summer's day in the westcountry The De Lank may be worth a shot, indeed. Wouldn't want to be camping though All the best Tim

Hi guys, Thanks for the quick response. We have decided to take our chance in Wales as the forecast is of improving weather(which means it's probably going to bucket it down). We can always fish the some wild brown stillwaters as a last resort. The pub not a bad idea but maybe not for the whole 4 day trip Once again thanks for the heads up and hopefully i will get down to Devon soon. A very useful forum here for a Londoner like me who likes to get out of the smoke to fish. Cheers, Mark
