I managed a couple of hours fishing yesterday. I wanted to try and have a crack for a salmon. I fish a pool that a few members have fished that you need to fish in a slightly unconventional manner.
It can be quite visual as you see a fish leave its lie and sometimes hit the fly like a train or in what seems a lot of cases come out after the fly and just give it the gentlest nip that can mean a light hook up. This happened yesterday and I had a 7lber on that I managed to keep out of the snags but then just came unbuttoned.
Great fun though.

Unlucky Pete, next time! I lost one on the West Dart yesterday too. Heavy rain tonight and Sunday, which should help the fishing on the Duchy, well bring more fish In the system. I've yet to catch an Avon Seatrout.

Hi JC,
Yup, one of those things. It is fun trying different things to see if they work.
I have had salmon this way in this particular pool and like I say it is hugely visual as you aren't in the water so you see everything happen.
We saw some big sea trout up there last night too and they are starting to arrive in greater numbers.
Good luck with the Avon sea trout!

Unlucky Pete. I think I know the method you mean, and the pool. It can be quite nerve wracking sight fishing for salmon, they are just so unpredictable, but the thrill is in the take anyway.

Hi Rob,
Yes, seeing them hit the fly certainly is worth it.
Good luck today!
