Went out last night in hope of a birthday Sea Trout, first run spooked a nice fish, run in to the pool below, did not hold much hope fishing the pool, but carried on, half way down, had a good knock on the line, me hearts start racing! Covered the fish again but no joy, carried on fishing the pool, got another knock on the line, but no fish, could hear them splashing around, fishing the tail of the pool, casting and stepping and then BANG fish on, up and down river the fish went, out of the water three times, managed to tame it to the net, lovely three pound Avon Sea trout.
We are going to enjoy it on the B&Q this afternoon, for me birthday lunch.
It's the first and last fish this season I plan to knock on the head.

Good job JC! What did you catch it on?
I'm still looking for my first Dartmoor sea trout, but Saturday night I found some fish leaping about in a spot so I reckon I've got the searching part out of the way. I've entered into a pact with myself to only use home tied flies and I went through the repertoire with only a tentative knock to show for it.
All current hope rests on a pattern I'm calling the 'Bad Medicine'. With the original Medicine being a Teal, Blue, and Silver without a tail the Bad Medicine sticks to this Frankenstein principle - black body, silver rib, black cock hackle, (suspiciously like a Stoat's Tail) but with a mallard 'butcher' blue wing. It probably exists already but I'm sticking to my re-christening as it will allow me to hum a few bars of Bon Jovi in the dark watches of the night.
Congratulations again on getting off the Avon duck!

I'm only a Salmon short of a Dartmoor full house. That might have to be next season's mission!
