Hi there Have a very said feeling that we will not be fishing the Exe for a little while after yesterdays downpour. The trees that line the bank appeared 15 feet into the River and the water was up at worse winter level. The gate to my usual beat is no longer there and has been washed away. Will I get a salmon before the extension finishes or is that really it for the season

Horrendous init! I've not fished on the Barle since July, every time I've managed to find the time it's gone into dirty spate. I was going last Thursday... Next week looks a bit drier but I expect it will come right just before the next deluge I wonder if you can get a rod on Pinkery Pond Andy

Tried to fish today. Far to much water and too many canoes. Counted 13 in half an hour. Still looking for a salmon before the season ends

Where abouts are you fishing Flybox? I was out on the 13th up on the Barle and water was a touch big but I picked up three, all on the fly Two small bright grilse that had been running hard, note the lower fins rubbed red raw... ...and one slightly bigger older cock grilse However on Sunday (14th) I blanked, there didn't seem to be anything there at all. On Tuesday our very own TobyM got his first on fly but it was the only fish we saw all day. The beat was fished again on Wednesday for nothing, not a fish seen I would expect more to be seen at this time of year with this water. Have they all run up past me? Are they all holding up below the Exe/Barle junction? Are there in fact not that many about and I was just very lucky on Sunday No rain forecast before the month end so that may be it for me. Tight lines. Andy

Fishing just above Washfield when I get there. Hopefully having a trip tomorrow after a bit of grass cutting and gate painting !!! It could (of course) be that I am really rubbish at fishing but the fun is in the trying.
Got there - caught my first grisle of the season.... about 7 lbs...... yippeee

Well I struggled on for not very much in the last few weeks but the last day (14th Oct) came up trumps. 2 surprisingly bright hens (4lb and 6lb'ish) and one coloured cock of about 7lb. All on a size 8 Ally's. This is the first time I've seen fish this clean at this time of year up on the moor. When I last fished in October in 2005 eveything was black or red. Hopefully I'll catch up with them again high up on the moor when they are doing what they came here for. Andy

Well done Andy
I was fishing on the 24th September in our top pool when the largest salmon I have ever seen came out of the water just 10 feet from me. Absolutely Huge - much much bigger that the 10lb fish that I have previously caught. Could not find it although I have to admit to trying for the next hour.
Hope to see it's off spring back in the river in 5 or more years time
I fishes once during October this year (last Sunday) didn't see a fish. Packed up at lunch time as it was really bright and the river was full of leaves.
Best wishes Clive
