Had a few hours for my first trip of the season . Not much moving but managed two on the dry and two nice sized sea trout smolts on the nymph. Colin.

Very good rise on last night . Caught some nice brownies and some more sea trout smolts. That's 8 in 3 short sessions. Hope no one was looking at the webcam at about 8-00 last night. My foot sunk in the mud when I was putting a nice brown back. When I hauled the one foot out the sudden release caused me end up on me "arris". Colin.

Had a short late evening session yesterday with 3 fish to 10 inches thanks to a balloon caddis. Steady small trickle of Mayfly coming off without any apparent interest from the fish. Nice to see the river alive again with steady risers in pool tails at dusk. Lets hope the weather holds for a while now.

Had a few last night. Lots of fly life that should have got a lot more fish moving. A real mixture of flies including more mayflies than I have ever seen on the river before. Not in the swarms that you get on the Test but lots for the Otter. I think most of them were Danica. At least that is what I think they are called. My entomology isn't what it should be. Colin

Mayflies are almost gone but the sedge hatches really good. Dimpsy dark has been very productive using a mallard and claret with the wing ginked up fished upstream and twitched back. I landed a fine brown of about two and a half pounds amongst a good few more. The river still has algae in it which looks awful and rafts of foam later in the day which is cause for concern. We are meeting with a WTT representative on Tuesday who may be able to provide some answers.

Hey bIlly... Are you in a club/ syndicate on the Otter (sorry my memories playing up.... otterton?).... I've walked pretty much walked all of it (where footpaths allow) from Budleigh to Honiton over the last 2 months and hadn't realised how much great water it holds, if they could get the nutrient levels down in the river and reduce the algal mats on the river bed it would be stunning.

Ottery Fly fishing Club have between 6&8 miles of water. The lowest beat is at Tipton St John and the highest just above Honiton. We have about 50 members and the waiting list is short. Sometimes you can get in straightaway, sometimes you wait a year or two . It's great fishing for the money with the season extending to the end of October for sea trout and all for the cost of a day on the Test. Peter , the WTT man was great . He will produce a report with recommendations in a few weeks. I will let you know more then. I'm off to the river now. I saw lots of activity when I drove over the bridge at Tipton. It's also fish and chip night at the Golden Lion. Colin.

Sounds great Colin, I meant to chase it up after attending the River Otter Association a couple of years ago where I met a couple of members. Have you contact details you could pm across to me? Look forward to hearing what the WTT say after their visit. Cheers Matt

Good short session tonight. Caught a dozen or so without moving very far . Lots of activity but I couldn't find what they were taking. When the rising became more splashy I put on a g&h sedge and had results including the nice fish I had been trying for all night. Lovely pound and a half wild brownie. The bottom of the river has algae on it where the water is deep and slow but the suspended algae appears to have gone. Given the right overhead conditions it will be worth staying out later. Colin.

Hi Colin Be great to meet up, I can make Tues, Wed or Thurs.
Nice to hear the river is clearing out a bit, no doubt a good pulse of water would help. Nice sized fish, you seem to catch some good sized browns, I hadn't realised the otter had such a good stamp,of fish.
Cheers Matt
