Visited three Dorset rivers today each getting progressively smaller. Started on the Frome just before 9am, the river was in great condition, weather warm, no wind (at last) and the sun out to play with a clear sky...... And the fish were rising. Had some great dry fly action, caught a mix of wbt and some stocked bt. Biggest of the day was a stocked fish, but the highlights were 3 14-15" wbt and this stunning 18" wbt which was in great health- fat and broad across the back. Lifted into him from about 35' at which point he went like a train in the heavy flow.... Loads of fun After lunch I headed over to the Piddle, very quiet.... Just a few Mayflys knocking about, but only spotted one trout.... Which wasn't feeding! The weed growth was really thick making many of the runs very tricky with little water to work. So I moved on to a little tributary of the Frome.... Little room and some stretches full on jungle warfare! First time on the stunning little stream- These were the wide, open stretches.... To fiddly to get photo's on the really narrow and overgrown bits. Had 4 small wbt, missed two on the strike and spooked loads. All four were about the same size, but I spooked two bigger fish... One I'd guess about 1/2lb... Which would be a challenge in the tight confines. Stayed for an hour then made my way home about 5pm.... Great day!
