Fishing the River Exe on the last Sunday of the salmon extension managed to catch and land a rock. The point of the fly lodged in a small crack and the rock which was the size of a cricket ball was eventually landed
Have you caught anything unusually?

I have seen a few rocks and stones "take" the fly the best I have had was when I was sea trouting on the Itchen once and convinced I had caught a fish that turned out to be a rock...they do give you a fight. I was working once and was out looking for bass. We were in an estuary as the tide was about to come in and we were in about 18 inches of water. As we were standing there a salmon of about 8lb swam between us and sat there with its nose in some seaweed. I gently popped my hand in the water and took hold of the wrist but it was too strong and shook and I lost hold. The funny thing was it didn't shoot off, it just moved a foot or two and I got another chance but this time it did bolt off. I only wanted to see if I could get a photo but I've not seen anything like that before.
I am pretty sure that Grumpy has hooked a few strange things....
Yeoman, were you on the Ganges after a funeral?!
