As the section of the Yeo I am fishing is not part of the CFFC water I thought I had better post here instead. Managed to bring 20 WBT to hand tonight fishing from 7-9:30, about 6 or 7 fish hooked and lost and quite a few rises missed. Fish rising to a small black fly ( like a black gnat but smaller) but wouldn't look at my imitation! Changed to a size 16 Wickhams and bingo. Most rising fish if properly covered took without hesitation, those that didn't could often be persuaded by a small twitch of the fly. Considering how low the water is I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sport, if I can get permission from the leader of the opposition (the Wife ) I plan to try again over the weekend ( hope we get some rain soon).

Managed to get out for a couple of hours early this morning ( 9-11 am ) 5 caught 3 lost and some rises missed. Some took a nymph ( animated in slow water) and some took a Wickhams Fancy but most successful fly was a shuttlecock black buzzer ( thanks Pete )! Lots of Diptera type flies about but only one upwing seen ( pale watery I think ). Nothing over 8" though, not as good as the evening fishing.

Difficult evening on the Yeo tonight. Plenty of fish rising but lots of refusals, tried various patterns with some success , missed a few fish that seemed to come short or just splash at the fly. Caught about 10 but felt like I should have done a lot better, and of course the best fish ( maybe 10" ) threw the hook on its second jump! Saw some spinners ( BWO I think) but the rises weren't the rings I would expect if they were taking spinners, some black sedges and lots of midges, maybe they could just see the line as I wasn't putting them done they just kept rising all around my fly!! Perhaps a quick dance to the rain Gods is required.

Not much rising tonight but those that were took well enough if you could approach them. Best fish of 10" was rising in just a few inches of water right at the neck of a pool which is normally too deep to wade up to, about the only advantage of the river being so low. I think I caught about 10 with a good fish taking me into some roots because I was too lazy to change position so I couldn't stop it. As usual some fish threw the hook or were just pricked and some rises missed (probably more than I want to admit). Tried small gnats, sedges and shuttle cock buzzers but most successful fly was still the good old Whickham (size 18).

Didn't really fish tonight just went out to stretch my legs. There were a few fish rising to tiny stuff but with the river so low I left them to it. Saw a Kingfisher and a buzzard and a family of stoats(I think). Pulled out a load of balsam and tidied up some fallen branches that keep catching my back cast in one pool. Nice evening, really good to walk the river without a rod.Looks like the season is on hold unless we get some rain!

Fished tonight from 8.30 till 10.The heavy rain we had today had put some colour in the water and at first I thought this was putting the fish off, however as the light fell the fish became more confident. Unfortunately it was now too dark to see the fly and I had to just watch the area beyond the fly line and strike if I saw a fish rise. This led to quite a few missed and or pricked fish as my timing was all over the place but managed to catch about 10 best fish 9", hate to think how many I missed, just have to console myself with the thought that they weren't actually hitting my fly after all( yeah right!).Really only went as an excuse to try out some new floatant (Tiemco dry magic) seems like good stuff , worked well on the CDC pattern I was using.

Good results tonight using a small wickhams, managed 16 to hand with two good fish just short of 11". Took shelter under a bridge as the storm passed ( put the rod down) the rain stopped but the fish stopped rising so I went home, only fished for about an hour. Fish were in really good condition considering the low water and fought well before being released.Anybody else been out , forum seems quiet.

I went out in the otter with billy fish last night, a new river for me...surprising seeing as it's 10 mins down the road. I was there as Colin's guest, a really nice strech, plenty of fish rising although quite fussy early on... We both had a few... Nice fish of a decent size... Very enjoyable short late evening session.

Another interesting evening tonight, this season just keeps on giving. Started off with the usual Wickham but kept either missing the rise or the fish would throw the hook after brief contact, there were a few pale wateries about so I changed to a para tups and at last the fish started to stick. Saw something strange in what I call the bridge pool, a large fish ( at least 12") jumped out of the pool three or four times as if being chased or chasing something else, was quite a sight. Also found the front half of a signal crayfish the size of a small lobster!! Obviously Mr Otter has been busy.

Just a quick nod to Jonathon Barnes "On stream guide" and his soft hackle dry. Caught 14 WBT tonight in tough conditons. The only rising fish were attacking some late Mayfly spinners but they wouldn't look at my imitation, however they didn't refuse the movement offered by the soft hackle dry, five of the fish were over 8" which seemed like a better stamp of fish than usual. Anyone who hasn't watched his videos on you tube might want to take a look, lots of good info there.

More action on the Yeo tonight (Sunday), 14 fish up to 9" on soft hackle dry and later a skated sedge, (although they were hard to hook on the sedge). It seems this year that the fish are more willing to rise, I haven't fished a nymph since early May! Also got up close and personal with a young otter, saw two Kingfishers and a Buzzard, what more could you ask for. Just a shame the season goes by so fast, the evenings feel shorter already, almost ran out of time to fish the last (and one of the best) pools, the strike for my last fish was just a guess that it had taken my fly as I could hardly see the end of the fly line let alone the fly!

Difficult tonight, river very low now , hardly moving in some areas. Nasty downstream wind made presentation tricky. A few sedges and the odd small olive about but not much rising. Saw two mayfly spinners dipping down to lay their eggs but nothing attacked them this time ( after I bothered to tie some up after last time!!!). Managed to catch four, two on a para tups one on a sedge and one on a BWO soft hackle dry. It must rain soon now the summer holidays have started, surely.
