I was visiting a friend for the first time in a few years, last time was well before taking up flyfishing. Walked along the Avon from just below Salisbury to a couple of miles above. Through the town stretch there is some really impressive fishing and amazing numbers of decent fish. From where the main shops start to dwindle up to just above waitrose there were decent numbers of fish in the 1-2 lb mark and lots in the 1/2 - 1.5lb range. Above Salisbury the water (perhaps 1/2 mile) is marked at Salisbury district angling club, but below that to the centre of the town there are no signs about fishing. There is some great water in this unmarked stretch, which although channelised is full of weed and varying channel depths. My mate said he had seen the odd person fishing (he's lived there for years) but hardly ever, wondering if anyone knows the score?

boisker, I haven't heard free or not but I think a friend of mine fishes it. I'll see what I can dig up.
