Just wanted to share some of my fishing from yesterday morning. I've been to Clam end (beat 32) which is part of the westcountry angling passport, the beat is about 600 meters it's short but is pure joy of pockets water and riffles. After a slow start I catch that little beauty on the duo of fly. From that point fish kept on coming until I came to a part of the river which was much faster and thought why not let's cast near that bank over there and to my surprise landing that gorgeous fish, not sure about the size exactly may be 10 inch, for me it's big also gave good fight and the most rewarding it took the klinkhammer I tied few days before. In total landed about 7 and lost about the same, this beat is so nice but if anybody try to fish it get ready to walk down and up a really really steep hill. Thinking about that hill is worth it Anthony

After all this days of rain I thought I'll give it go and see, I really love that river I think I've been fishing so much this year I can call it my local river. I set my self with a duo, Klinkhammer & PTN of my own with pink dubbing around the thorax. For the first 10 minutes not much action happened there was a few fly around the river had good flow and was incredibly clear, than I came across the first pool, couple of cast in to it and the Klinkhammer sank slowly I set the hook, second after the fish started jumping 3 feet above the water and replicate the same jump 4 times and every time my heart was doing the same and I was also puzzeld how a Brown trout can jump? As I try to bring it to my net I understood why this fish had such energy it was because this fish made a really long journey and was not happy to have been caught, this fish was a sea trout (approx 15inch) my first ever sea trout caught on size 16 PTN I absolutely couldn't believe my eyes. I bet that was fun! The perfect mix of excitement and that terrible underlying fear that it might come off! Brown trout can also jump ( one jumped twice for me last time out) unfortunately no sea trout on the Yeo, must try and get to the Inny,so many streams so little time.

Another surprise today, the lady of the stream came to say hello. A lovely 12 inches fish caught on the PTN with my favourite cast "bow and arrow".

Second time on the river Inny and it was the first fish of season for me, a small but beautiful Browny. I was fishing a duo of Klinkhammer and Black PTN, I didn't expected that the PTN would been that good, after half hour I've hooked a lovely fish (approx 15 inch) which I lost as I was going to scoop it with my net, few seconds after I was quite surprised by having hooked a small sea trout (didn't know sea trout was so early in season). Further upstream I've caught another small Browny and then out of blue a small Grayling (at this point I thought if there is a British grand slam I think I've got it ) On the last half hour I ended up just front a pool after a couple of casts the Klink sunk underwater really slowly. I slowly raised my rod as I thought it got caught on some rock, well I was wrong. It pulled the rod right down, after a minute or two of fight I realised I caught the biggest Grayling I have ever seen, the fish decided to go downstream in the riffle. It's at this moment I try to reach for the net and soon realised that the lady of the stream had escaped! I believe now that the fish must have been at least 3lb, maybe more. I know the season for Grayling is close but God I'm so gutted! On the last note it was hell of a good hour fishing and hope I'll have more like this (Not losing fish). Didn't had time to take pictures I enjoyed it so much. Anthony

Lovely story Anthony and in some respects it is good the fish got away but it will give you a taste of what might be lurking in some of those pools.
I am sure it will take a long time to forget though, it is funny how we remember the fish we have lost often more than the ones we landed!

True I thought about it too, it is there spawning season and hope the fish is fine. I will remember this fish for a very long time! Does anybody know if it's sea trout season? I'm still surprised I've hooked one.

Just to ease your mind a bit Fario although Grayling are out of season for spawning it is still early and with the raised rivers / high flows I haven’t heard of any spawning yet... I think the season will be slightly delayed due to the current river conditions so I am sure no harm was done. I think they are even more at risk immediately post spawning, as it puts them under stress and the rivers have started to warm up... last year by the time grayling had spawned the SW rivers were already very low and warm. Although the Grayling season opens with the rest of the coarse fish on 16th June, I’d have more concerns about trying to catch large grayling at that time.
