I managed to get out one day after open day on the Tuesday last week. It was nice to get out if a little cold on the crown jewels. Managed to get some on little tungsten beaded nymphs fished french nymph style. Saw two fish rise but due to work only managed to get out at nearly 3pm so think i might of missed any hatch. River looks in good shape.

Well done on getting out Toby. I've got at a trip planned for next week but as of yet undecided where to go. It's going to be either Devon or Wales.
Hope our well mate.

It is a great stream though.

It's Toby's North London accent that gives him away as a member of the Yid Army ..

WestSpam won today, You guys best stick todays date in the diary as one to remember Fished the Tone today for a few hours and managed to get a few fish and even had a couple on the dry. Fish look in great condition and nice and plump. Spent a fair while watching some fox cubs playing less then 10 yards from me but a bit worried because 40 yards down stream a dead fox was caught halfway up the riverbank, i hope its not there mother.

Good angling Toby although I'm not going to bite... Its funny how things like the fox incident can play on your mind. I think when we fish we have a heightened feeling of being in contact with nature. I was fishing a reservoir once and a swan hit some power lines above me and fell down at my feet. It was a right mess and quite upset me to a point I had to go home.

Have fished the Tone a few times this year and never blanked which is great. But fishing this last Monday night has to be one of my favourite times. I worked like a mad thing getting out fly tying orders so i could sneak off a little earlier then normal to get on the river but as happens i did not get on to the river until after 6pm. Most of the hatch had stopped but midge were still coming off and the odd May. I knew where i wanted to fish on the river and its a good 15 minutes walk from the car to the first pool. The first pool i went in to had 3-4 fish rising but as soon as i entered the water they stopped and this happened in three different pools. Now the water was clear and the river low and i entered the water very slowly and quietly but the fish were super spooky. Anyway after some 30 minutes i managed to work out the fish and they were taking midge right in the film of the water so on went a f-fly with a shuck (thanks Pete for convincing me shucks worked so well) and boom the rest is history. No massive fish but 3-4 fish per pool were taken and i had a blast. Sometimes i had to wait a few minutes for the fish to start rising in the pool again but they did and f the fly drifted correctly the fish would take. Such great fun and a beautiful evening to be out fishing. I only fished until 9pm but had plenty of fish and a top 3 hours fishing.

Hey Toby. How's the Tone now - they've dredged the heck out of a whole lot of it this summer haven't they? I'm hoping that was the lower end rather than "your" water? Cheers, Kev
