I took a detour to the Lapford Yeo on the way home from work today ( I work in South Devon and live in East Devon!). Anyway, I had a fantastic 3 hours on the river. Started off with one of my small klinks and had a few bites but nothing too interesting so I decided to change to the Mega May that I tied recently and ... crikey, the fish were almost immediately smashing it (the locals on the Lapford Yeo like that fly!) I had a fair few very strong bites but didn't hook most of them. I was fortunate enough to have been given the privilege of hooking this little beauty ... Plus another tiddler that was obviously very hungry as he was about the same size as the hook! I'm pretty pleased as this is only the second time i've been able to get on the river so far, on my own (as i'm a huge novice). But I did have a fantastic 3 hours, on my own, in the peace and quiet, just fishing ... lovely. And the bonus is, I was fishing with my own flies ... does it get any better?

I had another cracking afternoon on the Lapford Yeo today, had a few of which here are a couple of little beauties ... I stayed on the dry all afternoon again, with more success than last time. I did change patterns a few times and settled for a Grannom type deer hair oattern that I tied up recently. I found that in the deep slow pools giving the fly a twitch produced some very aggressive takes, so much so that the fly took a battering. The fly on the right in the picture below started the afternoon looking like the fly on the left! ... I also had the chance to try out and practice various casting styles and am getting more confident from either side of my body, and I think i've managed to master the bow and arrow cast, at last. I'm looking forward to getting up on the Exe on the DAA waters now, onward and upwards!!

Good stuff Pusser... I found initially rivers can be quite taxing and challenging... Slow progress and then it suddenly speeds up and clicks...
