Hi Paul and welcome aboard, where do you fish?

Been with TFFC since 2005. Fish the Tone mainly, occasionally the Culm (TFFC beat) and Otterhead early season. Would like to fish more for rainbows, but prefer not to kill fish, so limited to C&R waters, and there`s not too many of those. Also like to occasionally fly fish for coarse species.

Good to have you here and look forward to hearing about your fishing trips. I think there are a few TFFC members on here, Toby M being one of them.
I was looking at C & R waters for rainbows and thought Bratton Water had a C & R lake at the front but looking at their site it looks like this has changed. I also thought there was C & R at Burton too but looking at their site you can only release the same amount of fish that you have taken...has this changed too?

No, Burton Springs is one of the other waters I fish. They do a sport only ticket for £15, and a "match your catch" ticket, where you can C&R an equal amount of fish as those you kill. The downside to Burton is really only that it is small and a bit out of the way. You can flyfish for the carp on the carp lake on the price of the sport ticket as well.

Think you are probably right Ben but its opening day and it is nice way to mark the start of the season. I won't be fishing with any real expectations but you just never know, I think thats why I love it so much!

Go for it Pete, the Exe has recorded two sea liced salmon already The Taw, being a better spring river, must be stuffed with 'em Andy

Well I have had my first day, wasn't the one who caught either of the two salmon in the above listing. However the river was in fabulous condition with loads of water and to don waders and pick up a rod was superb.

Thanks FBF, we'll see what happens!
I was doing some casting with Troutbum from here on Fri and we were right next to the river (Taw) We sat and watched loads of Large Dark Olives coming off. I'm going to have a look again tomorrow.
Just watched the Attenborough salmon program again... stunning.

Hi Pete
Have a great day on the river tomorrow. I hope the lurgy wont stop you (stupid thought,of course it wont).
Full reports from all you lucky opening dayers please.
Only 14 days till the sweet little 4wt is dusted off. I know it will be too early for the West Dart but what the hell.
Once again good luck with a fresh springer everyone.

Thanks for the piccies Pete
The river looks fantastic. I bet all you Taw guys are getting excited about the weather predictions as it looks like there may be some water on its way. I shall keep an eye on the river reports for the first Salmon on these boards. Will it be the Taw or the Exe?
