I did work for 5 years in Truro next to the river Allen I never thought this river was holding trout, next time I might have go at it. Did you start underneath the viaduct?

Yes, just a little further downstream opposite the NCP. I think you'd dramatically increase your chances if the river was clearing after a spate.
I was using a 7' #4 which felt like a beachcaster. 6' #2 would be ideal.

Thanks jjo. I only 7 ft #4 too I might wait until mid September until we get more rain.

Had another session on the Allen back in May. An completely different story. The river had been cleaned up by a conservation group the week before and looked absolutely idyllic. I took a 6' #2 weight with me this time and ended up with 15 fish equally(ish) split between dry (DHE) and nymph (PTN). Best river session of the year so far.
