Fished the Yeo just above the junction with the Creedy last evening. After three log distance catch and releases I finally started to land fish. A bit slow but but in an hour I had about four. The top pool just below the bridge was alive with rising fish but only managed two here on a sparkle dun and tupps. Tried.all sorts of flies but I think they were into something I wasn't giving them. All returned.
Fairly warm evening. River still low and reasonably clear following the weekend showers

Fished around dusk on the Yeo last night all returned. Some risers here and there, managed four, mostly on a bwo parachute style. Fish seem to becoming more picky lately.

Fished the.golf course on the Yeo last evening. A few risers.about, quite hard to tempt them. Four fish up to 7". Lost a good one near the top that snapped my fly off. If you catch one with a tupps in its chops let me know how big it is!
Is anyone else fishing much? Seems very quiet on here. Be nice to hear how things are going for you all.

Meant to post here- no sea lamprey that far up the Taw!
When I get a moment, I'll post a short summary of Jo and my trip to Bosnia!

Fished the same stretch yesterday evening. It was nice just to get in the river to cool down! Four to the hand, lost a few. Largest 12" on a tupps again in the fading night past 9pm. All released. Can't seem to tempt an evening fish with a sedge which I thought odd. No one fly seemed to work better than another, not sure what they are eating. They were rising here and there, some pools switching on for a few minutes, then dead. Even tried a nymph but no joy.

Caught 4 bt last night upstream of salmonhutch. Best 10", all returned. Quite tricky again but a black klink was best, even when stripped back through pools they chased it! On the way back to the car I couldn't resist dropping down past the bridge for a few goes in the pools just downstream. I was in the water for all of two minutes before I was joined in the water by two red setters! At 9.20 pm. Can't remember the last time fished the downstream section without a dog joining me. No apologies offered by their master either. Tsk.

Went out at 6.30pm although it was still roasting. Found a shady wood on the Yeo to fish which helped. Found enough rising fish to keep me entertained.
Flies that failed - olive parachute, beacon beige, sparkle dun.
Tied on a mayfly emerger and first cast landed a nice 12" bt that put up a great fight for five minutes. The fly worked intermittently from then on. It was like fishing with a depth charge as it was so big. Difficult to present stealthily with such a low river. Hooked a goodun below Kersford weir. Ran straight towards me, saw me, panicked and charged downstream. The rod went slack and then bent hard over again until the line parted at the blood knot joining the tippet to the leader. Gutted. Some mayfly seen.
Tried to carry on with a grhe parachute fly. Worked infrequently. Went through a large patch arising fish without so much as a sniff. Switched to a tupps which worked ok but couldn't land any. Became too dark to see it so put on a large white wulff at 9.10 pm. Landed a nice 11" which I took for supper. Checked its guts. Had been eating lots of small (size 20) brown beetles, lots of small greenfly (lots of those under the tree leaves on the river) and, at least two wasps or bees! For such a varied diet I can't see why the fish seemed so fussy!

Nice one Rubble, good to hear you are still hitting the water. It seems like it has to be either bright and early or late on. A pal of mine fished the Taw y'day and trout weren't biting but he found a bunch of dace that kept him entertained.

Hit the Culm at sunrise today. Managed six browns from 5" to 13" all returned. A small one launched completely out of the water when it took my fly. Had success with a regular dry adams, a few on a bwo and some on an irresistible. Also took home one rainbow of about 11". That's two rainbow from the Culm for me this season. Sport really dried up by 10 am although I managed one at this time at the very top of the beat. A few mayfly still about!
Nice and cool early am, it's worth getting up even if you're not fishing just to cool off!

Had a.pleasant go on the Taw yesterday. About ten fish in all, nothing over 7". Had most success with a foam backed caddis with a bit of lureflash on its bum. Was able to get very close to a.kingfisher and observe it for quite a long time. It was almost hovering at one point when I think it was plucking.bugs out of the air. Marvellous. Also saw a mink I think. It was pale grey.and like the one on the Yeo not at all timid.
I also found an arrow on the bank with some nylon attached to the rear. I think someone has been trying to shoot fish Burt Reynolds style!

I likewise fished the upper Taw. Water is very low and clear and the main success was riffly/fast water as fish were easily spooked in the flat calm pools. Success was on a sparkle caddis and black klinkhammer with pink post. The latter as I could not see former in the dappled light on parts of the river! It was amazing to see so many fish in the water who were not that spooked when wading although I suspect they told their mates I was around. We need another flush of rain to pep things up

Went to the Taw early yesterday thinking the rain would have brought the level up and maybe a chance of migratory fish with it. It was actually pretty low and clear still. After an hour of ungracefully flogging a salmon fly around with inappropriate tackle I got the trout gear out instead and caught about 6 or so with the best being around 10", mostly on an emerger.
Lots of kingfishers, a mink and even saw a toad crossing the river on a fallen tree. A nice trip out
