Fished the Yeo below salmonhutch this am. Saw one rise in three hours, hooked a 5 incher for 5 seconds on a terry's terror (dry). No takers for a march brown.
Tried goldhead nymphs in olive, pheasant tail and flashback hares ear flavours but no takers.
Saw a kingfisherwhich is always nice. Also a few dogs having a swim, which isn't.
Very low and clear. Spooked a few small ones wading through the upper pools of the Culvery on the way home. So there are fish in there!
Saw another cffc car as I left with an upstream sign in it. Wonder if you had better luck?

HT and I fished Taw upstream of Taw Bridge, HT 4 fish to 9", me 2 fish to 9". HT fishing 2 small nymphs in the shallower runs, I fished 1 larger nymph in the deeper water. Enjoyable day despite the rain and wind.

Spent a few hours upstream of Salmonhutch on the Yeo after lunch. Had a quick chat with Mike Weaver who said he'd landed a few downstream. A blank for me though.
My wife took pity however. Later on, after drying our three and a half year old boy following his bath he asked Mummy how we would get the pooh out of the bath his little brother had just launched. "Don't worry, Daddy hasn't caught anything today, he can fish it out"!

Fished the Creedy/Yeo from the very bottom below Dunscombe bridge mid.afternoon. Blanked.
Tried out a French nymphing outfit for the first time. Bit tricky casting but hoping to improve next time. Think it will suit a bigger river really like the West Dart. Lost three nymphs on roots growing out of the riverbed (what the heck are they doing there anyway). Having plunged my arm up to above my bicep to unhook one snag I can confirm the water temp is...bloody cold.
Wandered all way up to Codshead bridge but saw no fish or rises. More flies about though.
Anyone else been out?

Hi Rubble,
Yes,tried above Salmonhutch this afternoon.Very dour. Lost a decent one just below first railway bridge and that was it. Water was quite coloured, which didn't help and bl**dy cold as you noticed! Roll on a bit of warmer weather and hopefully a few Grannom.

The Culvery was quite murky today. The Yeo less so at Salmonhutch, fishable certainly but with the chance of heavy downpours I elected to drive onto the Taw. It was really very clear considering the rain yesterday. Fished upstream for three hours with small gold head ptn. Managed 3 or so small wbt, one to 10" (still scrawny and a bit docile), 2 salmon parr and one parr sized thing that was quite silvery with black spots, not certain at all what it was, quite distinct from everything else I caught today. No takers for dry flies today, only one rise seen, a few flies here and there but no epic hatches which I am sure we are all thinking must be due.
My first time on the Taw. Really rather lovely, the sun even stayed out despite the odd shower. Temps up to 14.5 celsuis.

Tried a dawn raid on the Culm today more in hope than expectation. Pretty chilly first thing, 2.5 celsius. Not even a nibble on my nymphs. Didn't bother with dry fly as no flies seen. One slashing rise seen though but I rather suspect I just pooped.him. Nice stretch of river which suits my 7 footer nicely but some.sections may require my 5'9"er come.summer growth. Some clearing of the top section would be good, especially the brambles. Looks wadeable through.most bits though. Looking at the charts we're in for another bout of weather but at least the warmer temps will help the fish feed and start to get fatter.

Revisited the Culm this afternoon. Bugger all on nymphs, no interest in a dry march brown but rose a couple on a Terry's Terror. Missed both though. Saw a nice one crossing the river when I peeked over the bank. Only one rise seen, river felt much warmer and more flies seen today.

Spent from 8.30 to 12 today below and a bit above salmonhutch on the Yeo. 4 missed, 4 landed including a wbt that must have been at least 12 if not 13 inches. The others were around 7 inches but more plump and full of vigour than the big guy. They all went back.
Stuck with a dry Terry's Terror throughout, just couldn't be bothered with nymphs. Plenty of dog chuckers which was a bit of a pain, especially considering that half don't seem to give a toss about sticking to the public footpath. Must avoid coming here on Sunday mornings!

Fished the Taw last Saturday am. Found two pools with fish rising reasonably regularly. Spent much time stalking each and trying all manner of dries but could only rise one once with a small midge, which I only bumped. Managed 4 wbt on nymphs. Water so clear you could see the bottom of the biggest pools. Two other cars turned up after me, wonder how you got on?

Was out early today on the upper creedy. Managed about 7 fish. The first two very early on, both about 11" on a red tag. Put quite a bend in my 5'9". Quite slow going until I reached the tight bends at the top. Quite a cool morning, lots of tiny midge type flies, only one upwing seen, might have been a may fly? Was creamy in colour.
Anyone got a clear idea on the access arrangements in the top meadow by shobrooke parking? Got an earful for crossing it from the top bridge but I couldn't hear what was being said as the lady in the cottage garden was too far away. I just waved. Checked shobrooke permissive path arrangements on their website which I see has been changing but I'm none the wiser. Maybe I wrongly assumed that as we had fishing ok that side, crossing the field was ok. Think I'll just stick to the rugby side in future, as long as no one tackles me!

Hi Rubble we have rights to access the water from any direction. The lady hasn't lived there very long and they have recently, like you say, altered the permissive path arrangements on the Shobrook Park Estate but this doesn't affect our access. Hope this helps and glad to see you are getting out and about on the water.

Thanks treefella.
Fished the Culm from 7.30 pm last night. A few rises seen. Had a nice 10" brown at the bottom pool. Saw two kingfishers here chasing each other. Lovely to see.
Lost another fish a bit further up.
Landed a 11" rainbow from the sharp bend below the weir. Any ideas where that could've come from? Knocked it on the head for supper.
Landed another brown from the same spot, all browns returned though.
Terry's Terror doing the damage again. Found about one to two feet of visibility, very fishable but still pushing a bit in places

Hi Rubble,
Last few seasons a few rainbows have turned up in the Culm, I think some may escape from a pond somewhere as they can be very small(10 inch)and I can't see why anyone would stock this size. I did have a 15 incher one year in lovely grown on condition.

Good sport on the Taw yesterday morning. Pockets of rising fish which refused to be put down, even with my cack-handed casting. Pulled 3 out of one tight group, including two to 10". Left lots of good looking runs and just concentrated on areas with rising fish. The nymphs.stayed in the box.
Lots of flies seen, not too sure what but a black klinkhammer and grhe worked just fine.
Checked the.Yeo on the way up, quite cloudy following Friday evening's rain but probably will be clear soon enough.
This week looks very promising.
Ten to the hand, more lost or missed. Took one 11" for tea.

Back to the Taw yesterday. About ten fish in all from 11" to 4". Bumped into some chaps from the EA who were looking at the big tree by the gauge station that is blocking the pool above it. They said it was affecting the readings and so are looking to take it out. Good news for us then I guess.
On the way home I had dabble in the Culvery (poured boiling water from a flask over my boots etc first). Managed two to 7" which I'm chuffed about as it is really tricky in there!

5-3 pm, on the Yeo Kersford bridge to Fordton bridge. Quite a few rising in the right places. A few mayfly seen. Flies that didn't work; iron blue dun, black klinkhammer, Terry's terror, beacon beige, white wulff. Fly that did; grhe.
6 in all, 3 to 10". Started v slow but got quite good as my time ran out. Isn't that always the way! All fish now seem good and plump.

Glad someone else is struggling!
Spent 4 hrs on the downstream bit of the Taw yesterday. Mega hatch of midges- ignored by trout.
Subsurface swirls i the first pool and extracted 2 four inchers on a nymph. Big hatch of large grey-brownfluttery things and, later on, the air was full of dancing mayflies- about 1" without the tail, very slender an a chestnut brown. Neither ion th water and not a single fish rise or single fish caught after te first pool.
Spent 3 hrs today on the Culm- no flies,n one rise, no fish.
Have to go out With my fish magnet (Pete!).
Gardenibg duties tomorrow>
