Did the Culm very early today up to 11am. Very very quiet. No trout but avoided a blank with a 3 inch roach/dace on a para iron blue!

Popped out to the lower section of the Culm for the last hour of light last night. Very quiet river. Only two rises seen during a quick session from bottom to the road bridge, both converted into fish, the best being about 8" or 9". Evenings are too dark now to make after work/putting kids to bed trips worthwhile for me now. where did the summer go?

I know what you mean Rubble, I seem to have blinked and the season has almost gone. Although the water has been so low and the fishing not always easy I have much preferred this outcome than that of last season with so many unfishable days.
Just waiting to see how much, if any, rain we get in the next few days.

I suppose I've been so busy fishing compared to last year so it has gone quicker.
Had a go on the Yeo late afternoon through the golf course. Pockets of activity but also long stretches with not much going on. Managed about 6 or so fish, best of 11" on a ballon head caddis with a green hotspot (bum). Normally fish this stretch late evenings so it was.nice to do it when the sun was.higher which showed up the lies much better.
Maybe have 3 or 4 sessions left this season now. Better burn my passport tokens somewhere soon!

Spent three hours on the lower section of the Taw today. A slow start soon livened up with lots of willing fish ok the ballon head caddis. Managed about 8, lost the same, all went back, best about 9". Saw an 18" or so fat silver fish clear the water while jumping in one deep pool. Nice to know they're in there at least!
Also saw a bird swimming back and forth under water, bank to bank. Never saw it on the top! No idea what it was. Duck shaped but about a third of the size. Any clues?

Bird was probably a Dabchick ( Little Grebe ) very strong swimmers for their size and have the ability to surface very unobtrusively at the bank, very easy to miss.

Managed to get the afternoon off on the 30th and spent it on the lower section of the Taw. If only the sport was that good more often here. Brought 18 fish to hand in 3 or so hours, at least half of which were small salmon parr. Missed and lost just as many. Best brown was about 11", not bad at all for the Taw. All caught on a small ballon-head caddis. Sport ended when my new tapered leader parted when hooking a good fish. Could have re-rigged but I was done by then. Until next year.

Thanks for all the reports this year Rubble, I have really enjoyed reading how you have been getting on.
It is hopefully what the forum is supposed to be about, people sharing their experiences/info on the river with other like minded people.
