Thanks for the warm welcome...you were right about people only too happy to help...two members of the forum who fish the Otter have already offered to meet up when the season gets going. Really chuffed at the response ☺ Steve b
Thanks Boisker and Tackle Tart. I am presently watching orvis casting techniques ...just need to put in practice what I'm watching they make it look so effortless and easy. Unfortunately I've had to visit A and E twice in the last couple of seasons...one hook in the lip and one in the eyebrow (Chernobyl ant) ten mm from being quite serious. Surffice to say it knocked my confidence abit. That's what happens when you try to run before you can walk.
Look forward to seeing you on the river....not long now 😉

Ouch... that's not good, I reckon I know enough to give you some pointers to avoid hooking yourself... that's enough to put anyone off! Or as a better option and a great addition to the Orvis video’s... www.sexyloops.co.uk/theboard/viewforum.php?f=29Paul is currently uploading all the cast8ng instructional video’s from his sexyloops app, so they will be all available for free. Personally I think they are the most comprehensive and detailed free casting vid’s available.

I’m hoping to stay awake for the Scot/France game.. we flew into Stanstead from Rome yesterday, picked up the car at 16.45 just in time to drive back listening to the Eng/Wales game... we actually arrived back at 05.45 am this morning Car fuel injector problem... 13 hrs for AA to relay us back home on a series of 4 different flatbeds.... I’ve flown back from Tobago in exactly the same time

Hi All
I'm new to the forum. Have viewed it from time to time and always thought that I should join so have finally got around to it. I live on the Devon / Cornwall border and mainly fly fish for trout, grayling and sea trout. Look forward to discussing some things soon. DaveC

Greetings one and all. Please forgive my tardiness and for not making this my first post . ( Salmon 2018) I moved to Sidmouth about 18 months ago, STILL looking to buy in the area. In-between dealing with estate agents , viewings and the rest that life throws at me , I've been known to frequently abscond to the nearest water for a spot of fishing .
Tried my luck on : the Sid, Otter ( Deer park, beat 3 and Budleigh) , Little Dart(Fox's Glade), Culm ( Hemyock), Exe(Week Bridge), Kennick, Blakewells, Avon Dam, and Venford - may the lord have mercy on my soul. Venford was a tough nut to crack.
This season, I will hopefully sample the delights of : the Dart, Avon , Teign, Meldon, Sutton Bingham and Fernworthy. The list will get longer, of that I'm sure
Most of my previous fly fishing had been done on : the Wye, Lugg, Arrow, Teme, Frome(Hereford), Witcombe Coln ( Bibury and Fairford) Frome(Gloucs),and Tetbury Avon.
Looks like the weather is finally turning our way . So it's recite the incantation, burn the offering , don the heron headdress and smear one's chest with otter droppings, MAKE HASTE TO THE RIVER.
To OHs, Emscotians et al , may the weather be fair and the trout keep biting.
Jeff

Reference the weather , this morning ... talk about cold and windy! The list has already got longer, add the Torridge and if I can get things sorted out , the Taw. I had a patchy season last year , feast and famine, Devon, different ball game.
I've just started fly tying which has made me far worse than I normally am at the beginning of the season . I've just got to a level where the trout won't laugh or bolt in horror when presented with one of my flies and I 'm give serious consideration to stocking an assortment of exotic materials. The transition from "they make it look so easy..d**n it!" to " I 'm going to catch with this, you know" , only serves to increase my enthusiasm. Closely followed by the stage where one gets a bit cocky " a fly of my own design, a masterpiece, no less and I shall call it..........". We'll see, early days.
